Altaterra Kft (“Altaterra”), the European market leader for private label roof windows and accessories, has acquired Dakvenster.com from Middenmeer. The news was announced today by hat acquisition consultant Marktlink Fusies en Overnames. The purchase of Dakvenster.com fits the Altaterra growth strategy and its wish to expand this business into online (retail) sales of roof windows and related products.

Altaterra

Altaterra is the European market leader in the private label segment for roof windows and accessories. The company sells in more than 30 countries and has more than 130 employees – 12 nationalities – spread across Europe. The organisation was established in 2001 as a new start-up by the Danish VKR Holding Group, a group that produces and sells products from the categories roof windows, skylights, and vertical windows in more than 40 countries, achieving a total turnover of €2.5 billion.

Dakvenster.com

Dakvenster.com is a European online retailer of roof windows, skylights, and accessories, founded by Kees and Monique Koning. The family business with 50 employees has built up a strong position in the Netherlands and Germany. Dakvenster.com supplies customers in Belgium, France, and Austria from their 8000 m2 warehouse in Middenmeer. Dakvenster.com experienced strong growth in 2020, partly due to COVID-19. The pandemic has meant a huge boost to home investments. What’s more, the retailer is taking advantage of a clear shift to online (direct) sales. Because the wholesale building trade is bypassed by consumers and specialist retailers more and more, turnover increased by more than 30% to EUR 36 million. The outlook for 2021 is as positive as ever.

Acquisition

“We’ve had a great relationship with Dakvenster.com for a long time; they’ve been a customer of Altaterra and our sister company VELUX for years. Because the moment has come for Dakvenster.com‘s owners to retire, they approached us with this opportunity. The acquisition of Dakvenster.com means we immediately become a significant market participant in the online sales of roof windows, while at the same time gaining valuable insight and expertise related to roof window sales,” says Krzysztof Dudek, Altaterra CEO.

“We are delighted to sell our company to Altaterra. Combining the activities of both companies strengthens Dakvenster.com and makes it even better equipped to meet the future needs of our online customers. We are proud that our 50 employees are part of Altaterra and the VKR Holding Group. We feel this party is the ideal buyer for our company,” says Kees Koning, Dakvenster.com CEO.

Luc Keltjens, who assisted in the transaction for Dakvenster.com on behalf of Marktlink Fusies & Overnames: “Kees and Monique Koning were smart and timely in anticipating the transition to online sales by setting up various web shops in several countries. In combination with more than 20 years of experience, in-house logistics, and a high level of customer satisfaction, this allowed them to build up a strong standing in Europe. We talked to VELUX on behalf of the owners, to assess if we could translate a long-term relationship between both companies into an acquisition, and we were successful.”
